Why an AIA Webinar?
We looked to AIA Continuing Education because everything starts with the Design!
AIA CSE webinars target areas of concern that are not always considered at the design stage. Buffalo Lumber's AIA courses are designed to alert architects to potential threats to exterior wood caused by changes in the marketplace.
This class offers an AIA HSW credit:
- In depth look at the impact environmental laws have on wood finish and long-term performance
- Sustainable forestry has changed the final product, get insight on species performance and appearance characteristics in today’s market
- Mold and Rot Prevention: tighter building envelopes mean special considerations for wood, climb inside the wall and welcome water.
Exterior Wood Performance Considerations AIA HSW Course talks about chemical awareness with both wood stain and cleanup (We found it ironic that some environmentally friendly, water-based stains require hazardous chemicals when it’s time to re-finish).
Technology continues to evolve, laws continue to change, and the landscape requires vigilance to keep up to date. Zeroing in on where design can challenge wood performance we talk about the appearance characteristics that have presented a challenge to architects in the past.
We talk about naturally occurring contrast in the wood itself. This presents a challenge to architects who desire uniformity of shade. We show how much can be controlled by stain and where the installer comes into play.
It’s the “Dear Abby” calls
That is our nickname for people calling in with wood problems who are not our customers.
I started out just helping them because they were in need and we knew the answers (or could get them). These are not easy answers and their pain (and expense) is very real.
I have consulted with over 1000 architects in my career. It has given me a good feel for wood priorities at the design phase.
The entire purpose of this class is to draw attention to the critical decisions (often small, often overlooked) that affect long term wood performance in today’s market.
If we start with design, we can set up more wood lovers for long term success.
