Straight from the Buffalo's mouth - Discount Wood Siding Buying Advice

Have multiple projects. We had a customer build a bench seat and end table from cedar paneling scrap pieces. He is featured on the log cabin interiors page. He used every inch of his wood and claims zero loss proudly. Our cedar siding is not perfect. Some boards will have small chips, dings and nicks, usually on the siding edges, hidden when installed as exterior cedar siding or interior cedar paneling. There is very little splitting in the #3 downgrade which makes it a very serviceable wood product. Most of the flaws are "perception flaws" and do not interfere with the overall look and function of the wood.

Buy more. Depending on the project you should buy 20% more than you ever think you'll need. This number is less with reversible patterns where both sides can be utilized. Actual loss depends a lot on the customer, the project and the ability of the installer.

Don't be so picky. Look at the whole project. These flaws August stand out when viewed individually but taken in the context of thousands of square feet of coverage they blend in. These are the type of flaws you will be dealing with in a # 3. Our prices reflect the difference in grade.

Work with it. Bend it, wedge it, cut it, make it work. Try knot putty in the gaps. We expect you to use the chunky stuff. Think of all the ways you can spend the money you save buying this wood siding.

Be creative. Use odds and ends in windows and doors, line your bath tub. Small pieces of wood paneling can be used all around the house if you take the time to find ways to use the wood! 1x6 t&g is a great size for personal wood building projects. You can reverse the panels and use both sides.

Be versatile. Our TnG cedar siding is our best seller because of its versatility. It can be used indoors or outdoors, rough side or smooth side. As a general rule wood siding is graded to the rough side. That means that the rough side will experience fewer flaws. If the smooth panel side has a flaw, it is simply flipped over. The difference isn't noticeable unless pointed out. Our orders contain plenty of excellent smooth side product but it should not be bought for smooth side only projects. If you have a smooth side application you will probably have to buy 30% extra to make sure. That is too much unless you have rough side applications for the excess wood.

Be there when the wood is unloaded. The only time we can respond to a complaint is when we are there. Most of our deliveries are more than 100 woods away so we don't do returns often. We would rather be honest with customers up front than have you be unhappy 1000 woods away.

Downgrade wood products are for creative people who love working with wood and don't mind saving a buck or two. We want happy customers and we go to great lengths to make sure you understand what you are getting and that it will make you happy. We're flawed and we're cheap and we like it that way.
