White (Incense) Cedar

Our California Incense Cedar is one of the most stable wood species. It’s thermal conductivity rating or (K factor) is among the best of all softwoods. This provides dependable, predictable insulating properties and resistance to heat migration which positively impact performance of the species under machining conditions as well as gluing and drying. Incense cedar stands up to wider variations in temperature and humidity without warping, checking or shrinking then most softwoods. This allows for tighter size tolerances and easy shipment to and use in many regions of the world where there are varying climates. Finally, the smoothly machined surface and relative lack of resin canals and pitch pockets assure that cedar products can be easily painted or stained with oil or water based stains to a fine, smooth finish without bleeding or other problems.

Cedar Siding Patterns

T&G Cedar Siding is a best seller because of its versatility. It can be used rough side or smooth side, installed horizontally, vertically or diagonally, to provide distinctly different looks. Installed as an interior cedar paneling it adds a warm, distinctive touch to your home. Tongue & groove paneling has both a rough and smooth face and is graded to the rough face. Select Tight Knotty grades (STK) are popular for their warm, rustic look.

Cedar Lap Siding is milled for horizontal applications and is always applied so that each board overlaps the one below it. Horizontal Lap Siding patterns are nailed through sheathing into studs and should not be nailed through overlapping edges. Wood Lap Siding is milled in various patterns including our favorites:

Cedar Ship Lap siding is manufactured by resawing lumber at an angle to produce two pieces thicker on one edge than the other - sometimes called clapboard, with a thick butt and a thin upper edge lapped to shed water. The bevel edge gives an attractive shadow line. The Dolly Varden bevel pattern is a special mill cut that produces a thicker bevel pattern with a 1/2" rabbeted edge for easy installation.

Cedar Bevel Lap Siding is manufactured by resawing lumber at an angle to produce two pieces thicker on one edge than the other - sometimes called clapboard, with a thick butt and a thin upper edge lapped to shed water. The bevel edge gives an attractive shadow line. The Dolly Varden bevel pattern is a special mill cut that produces a thicker bevel pattern with a 1/2" rabbeted edge for easy installation.

Cedar Channel Rustic Siding has 1/2” overlap and a 1” to 1 1/4" reveal that creates a channel effect between boards. The Channel Siding pattern allows for maximum dimensional wood change (breathing) in climates of highly variable moisture levels between seasons - without adversely affecting the appearance of your channel lap siding. Usually available smooth, rough or saw textured. The back face has a center groove to prevent cupping in wider boards. You can flip the board to display the grooved face.

Cedar Dutch Lap Siding is also know as Cove Lap and German Lap Siding. The WWPA (Western Wood Products Association) simply calls it pattern "105". Cove Lap (as we refer to it) has the same general pattern outline as channel rustic lap siding but with a curved "reveal" that displays between the installed boards (pictured above). Our Cove Dutch Lap siding is best milled when extra dry so request fully air-dried or Kiln Dried seasoning.
